Missions

Faith-Promise Sunday provides an opportunity for the people of Mount Comfort United Methodist Church to have a part in missions. Held in February or March of each year, Faith-Promise Sunday is a time for the people of the church to pledge money to support the specific missions the committee has identified for the year. Money from the fulfilled pledges is used locally and internationally. In local projects, MCUMC has provided funds to feed the children attending Brightwood Community Center’s after-school program; to feed the homeless at Fletcher Place; to assist those in need locally; to provide Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas presents for local families. Funds also have been designated for projects that will be completed during church mission trips to the Henderson Settlement in Kentucky;

As part of an on-going effort, the Missions Committee collects food for the food pantries of Community Outreach Ministries Eastside (C.O.M.E.), Hope House in Greenfield, and Fletcher Place Community Center on the first Sunday of each month.

A favorite project at Christmas time is church participation in Operation Christmas Child. Not only do the people of MCUMC prepare holiday shoeboxes of personal items, toys, and gifts for a global children’s ministry, but the church also serves as a collection center for Operation Christmas Child, a Graham-family effort that sends shoeboxes to children around the world.
