Worldwide Mission Projects

SIFAT (Servants in Faith and Technology)

SIFAT helps the poor by training leaders who work among them in principles of development and self-help which includes appropriate technologies such as solar, wind, and water power, food production, health and sanitation. People with global concerns, in addition to those working among the poor, have come from many countries and states to study in Alabama at SIFAT. SIFAT sponsors a number of child-care facilities in Quito, Ecuador, to assist mothers there. Several MCUMC members have gone to Ecuador on mission trips to work with SIFAT. Founder Sarah Corson and her son Tom Corson, as well as others from SIFAT, have visited Mount Comfort United Methodist Church.

Heifer Project International

Heifer Project International is an interfaith organization providing animals and other assistance to rural families throughout the world. This ministry attempts to help people become self-sufficient in food production.

Operation Classroom

Operation Classroom is an Indiana Methodist program to help update the schools and clinics in Liberia and Sierra Leone. Opportunities for work teams are available several times a year.

Joy in the Harvest -- Lowell and Claudia Wertz

Lowell and Claudia Wertz, missionaries in Africa since 1980, have served in both Zaire and Tanzania. Joy in the Harvest is dedicated to helping people find salvation and Christ and experience His love in their lives. Christ’s love compels them to rise up and meet the challenges of poverty, disease, and spiritual loss. The Wertzes were Faith Promise speakers in 2003.

African Ministries -- Bishop Ntambo Nkulu

Bishop Ntambo Nkulu is serving the Lord in Africa and has four hundred ministers in his care. Bishop Nkulu has visited MCUMC several times, to thank us for our help and to update the congregation on his ministry. Mission funds are used to help build a permanent church and a parsonage in a village, equip each pastor and family with hand tools, and provide the pastor with a bicycle to enable him to better serve his community.

South India Missions -- David Stephen

David Stephen ministers in India where MCUMC support has enabled him to build several churches since 1994. Pastor Stephen has visited MCUMC to share his experiences in bringing Christ to the people of India.

The Mission Society -- John and Sandra Carrick

John and Sandra Carrick and their children were part of the Mount Comfort United Methodist Church congregation for a few years when John served as associate pastor. The Carricks have been serving as missionaries in Paraguay, training ministers and leading a congregation. John was the featured speaker in March 2009 for Faith Promise Sunday.

Samaritan’s Purse

The Graham family has many missions throughout the world. One of them is Operation Christmas Child, for which the people of MCUMC fill shoeboxes with personal items, toys, and gifts which are sent to the needy children in over sixty countries. Mount Comfort United Methodist Church has sent approximately 4,200 shoeboxes over the last twelve years.

OMS International -- Debbie Wittig, Indonesia

Debbie Wittig is a teacher at the Wesley International School in Indonesia. This school provides an education for missionary children coming from Japan, Taiwan, Korea, India, Australia, and Europe. Debbie has been a missionary for more than thirty years in foreign fields and was a speaker at MCUMC in 2006.

World Partners -- John Gerig

John and Julie Gerig have been on the mission field in Russia for ten years, working in St. Petersburg with students at a Christian university. John works in compiling and composing Christian studies for the Russian students. The Gerigs visited MCUMC in 2004.

Operation Mobilization - Nancy Izzard

Operation Mobilization has been training ministers and teachers for India’s Dalits, the lowest class citizens of India. Nancy Izzard is currently setting up mission trips to various areas that need help. She visited MCUMC several times and most recently in 2008.

Open Doors with Brother Andrew

Open Doors distributes Bibles world-wide and helps persecuted Christians.

Doctors without Borders

Doctors without Borders sends out crews of medical doctors and medical personnel to areas with little or no medical care available.
